Summary

Amid renewed tensions between Kuchis and local residents in the Punjab district of Bamyan province, the Taliban Ministry of Interior has announced the dispatch of a high-level delegation to investigate and address the dispute.

According to the ministry, the delegation includes the Taliban governor of Bamyan, the police chief, the head of intelligence, and officials from the Department of Tribes and Ethnic Affairs. The mission of the delegation is to conduct a field assessment of the disputed areas and address the recent tensions.

The Taliban stated that during meetings with the involved parties, it was emphasized that the disputed areas would be thoroughly examined, and a final decision would be made based on evidence, credible documents, and Islamic Sharia rulings.

Both sides have also been warned that, until a final decision is announced, neither party will be permitted to graze their livestock in the contested areas.

The recent tensions between Kuchis and local residents in the Punjab district began in the month of Jawza this year. Earlier reports had indicated clashes and injuries to several individuals. Although local Taliban authorities had previously claimed that the dispute had been resolved, recent reports suggest that tensions persist and concerns are rising over the possibility of renewed clashes.

Disputes over the use of grazing lands and pastures between Kuchis and local residents in parts of Afghanistan, including Bamyan and Takhar provinces, have repeatedly led to local tensions and sporadic clashes in recent years.
