A landslide in Badakhshan claimed the lives of several miners.

Following a landslide in the Shahr-e-Bazarg district of Badakhshan province, at least five miners have lost their lives. According to local Taliban officials, the incident occurred on Thursday morning, April 30, in the Avez village, where the workers were trapped while extracting gold in unsafe tunnels.

Mohammad Akram Akbari, head of the Taliban’s Disaster Management Department in Badakhshan, stated that all the victims were residents of the Yaawan district of the province and were working inside the tunnels at the time of the incident.

Abdul Rashid Rashad, the Taliban district governor of Shahr-e-Bazarg, has warned about the unstable conditions of the Pustaw area, stating that if safety measures are ignored, similar incidents may occur in the future.

Local officials reported that the bodies of the five victims have been identified, and efforts to investigate the site and determine if there are more victims are ongoing.
