A new local private radio station, Watan Ghag (Voice of the Nation), has officially begun broadcasting on the FM band in the Bolan area of Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand Province.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture said on Saturday (July 18) that the station’s broadcasting director stated the outlet aims to promote Islamic and national values while providing the people of Helmand with a variety of religious, educational, economic, and social programs.
The Taliban’s Director of Information and Culture in Helmand welcomed the launch of the station, saying that 24 television, radio, and print media outlets are currently operating in the province. He also urged media organizations to observe Islamic values in their programming.
The launch comes despite the fact that, since the Taliban’s return to power, dozens of media outlets particularly local radio stations have ceased operations or shut down due to economic challenges, restrictions imposed on the media, and censorship.
