Summary

The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that, after a prolonged interruption, more than 1,600 tonnes of food supplies have entered Afghanistan. The organization stated that the arrival of this shipment will allow the resumption of nutritional assistance services for thousands of people in need.

According to the WFP, the aid will enable the provision of nutrition support to approximately 80,000 children and 25,000 mothers in vulnerable areas of Afghanistan. The organization emphasized that the purpose of this assistance is to support vulnerable groups and mitigate the consequences of food insecurity.

The arrival of this shipment comes as Afghanistan continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis and widespread food insecurity. Millions of Afghans remain dependent on humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs, while aid organizations continue to stress the importance of sustaining such support.

International organizations have repeatedly warned that the ongoing economic crisis, drought, declining resources, and reduced funding for humanitarian agencies continue to keep humanitarian needs in Afghanistan at critically high levels. These organizations have called for continued support from the international community to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the country.
