Summary

Former Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar has described Pakistan’s recent airstrikes as a clear violation of Afghanistan’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He urged the Taliban to secure public support in defending the country’s independence and to begin inclusive intra-Afghan talks without delay.

Writing on X on Monday, Atmar said that Pakistan’s airstrikes had killed and injured innocent Afghan civilians. He stated that the justifications put forward by Pakistan for the attacks are inconsistent with both humanitarian values and international law.

He added that the experience of the past five decades has shown that Pakistan’s hostile policies have continued under various pretexts, warning that the continuation of such policies would contribute to the spread of terrorism and instability across the region.

Atmar called on Afghanistan’s current rulers to defend the country’s independence by building national consensus and engaging constructively with the international community in response to what he described as “the Pakistani military’s conspiracies.” He stressed that depriving the Afghan people of their rights and the country’s continued international isolation weaken Afghanistan’s ability to resist external aggression.

The former foreign minister proposed the immediate launch of comprehensive intra-Afghan talks, along with urgent and responsible engagement with the international community, as a means of preventing further Pakistani attacks.
