Summary

The Taliban’s Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has announced that it has distributed 1,237 residential land plots to returning displaced families in Nangarhar province. According to this authority, these plots were allocated to eligible families during an official gathering in the Khonki area of Behsud district.

Mullah Najibullah Hayat Haqqani, the acting head of the ministry, stated that the goal of this initiative is to provide permanent housing and access to basic services for returning families. He emphasized that this process aims to address the housing issues faced by families after their return.

Meanwhile, some transparency-monitoring organizations have stressed the importance of overseeing the land distribution process and called for ensuring fairness in the procedure. These organizations have also emphasized the need to provide essential services in the newly established settlements.

Urban development experts believe that sustainable housing cannot be achieved through land distribution alone. They argue that providing infrastructure such as drinking water, electricity, schools, and health centers is fundamental. According to them, the success of these projects depends on how much attention is given to these needs during the implementation phase.
