According to a document from the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice, the group’s leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, has issued a new oral directive banning the use of smartphones for all Taliban members and government employees. The document states that individuals who violate this order will be considered offenders and will be subject to legal prosecution.
Under this directive, those who breach the smartphone ban will be referred to military courts.
The document further notes that this decision was conveyed to the heads of military courts in eight zones under the Military Affairs Directorate of the Taliban’s Supreme Court, in the presence of provincial police commanders and intelligence chiefs.
According to available information, the heads of the military courts in the eight zones have been instructed to provide assurances to the Taliban leadership regarding the implementation of this order.
