Local sources in Badakhshan province say Juma Khan Fateh, a disgruntled Taliban commander and resident of Nasi district, has returned to his home area after spending time in Kabul. His return to Badakhshan comes amid ongoing clashes between the Taliban and the Afghanistan Freedom Front in Zebak district.
According to sources, Juma Khan Fateh was summoned to Kabul following widespread local discontent in Badakhshan. Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Taliban's chief of army staff, and Din Mohammad Hanif, the minister of economy, reportedly mediated his trip to Kabul.
Juma Khan Fateh had previously expressed dissatisfaction with certain policies of the Taliban leadership and resigned from his post as deputy governor of Zabul province. However, following his visit to Kabul, he dismissed his disagreements with the leadership as "media propaganda."
Meanwhile, Badakhshan has witnessed several security incidents in recent weeks. The "Sepahian-e-Mihan" group previously seized Yaftal-e Payan district for a few hours, further heightening the province's fragile security situation.
Analysts note that continued fighting in Zebak, recent developments in Yaftal-e Payan, and mounting internal rifts within the Taliban indicate that the security situation in Badakhshan remains complex and concerning.
