Sources have reported that Mullah Mohammad Shirn Akhund, the Taliban-appointed governor of Kandahar, has instructed officials responsible for security and traffic police forces in Kandahar to take serious measures to prevent corruption and to search young recruits and individuals without beards, claiming that “corruption exists among these people.”

He made these remarks during a one-day seminar held in the conference hall of the Kandahar provincial governor’s office, attended by approximately 800 Taliban military personnel. He stated that officials should intensify their efforts to improve discipline, implement reforms, and ensure sound management within their respective institutions.

The Kandahar governor emphasized the importance of monitoring the ethics, conduct, and personal behavior of military personnel, stressing that individuals who fail to act in accordance with the principles and values of their administration should be identified.

He also advised that, during the recruitment of military personnel, priority should be given to criteria such as trustworthiness, sincerity, and competence rather than outward appearance.

During the same meeting, Taliban Minister of Justice Molavi Abdul Hakim Sharaei criticized the conduct of some officials, stating that some ministers do not make time to visit and inquire about the well-being of the “mujahideen,” yet find time to meet cricket players.

Sharaei also commented on the role of Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, saying that if he were absent, some members of the Islamic Emirate would soon change their current style and would “start wearing ties.”

His remarks were apparently interpreted as a reference to the Taliban’s Interior Minister, who had attended the condolence ceremony for Afghan cricket player Shapoor Zadran some time earlier.
