Local sources in Afghanistan’s Paktika Province report that Mohammad Omar, a former member of the previous Afghan government’s security forces, was killed in the Khushamand district of the province. According to the sources, the incident occurred in the village of Babukhelo in Khushamand district.
The sources said Mohammad Omar was attacked and killed by unidentified armed assailants. No further details have been released regarding the exact time of the attack, how it was carried out, or the possible motive behind it.
As of the time of publication, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban-led caretaker government has also not issued any statement regarding the incident.
The killing comes amid continued reports in recent months of targeted attacks against former members of Afghanistan’s security forces, as well as former government employees and officials. While the caretaker government has repeatedly stated that it has ensured public security and is implementing its general amnesty decree, human rights organizations and local sources continue to document and report such incidents.
However, the motive for the attack and the identity of those responsible remain unknown. No independent source has so far been able to verify the details of the incident.
