Shah Mahmood Miakhel, the former acting Minister of National Defense of Afghanistan, has stated that five years of Taliban rule have demonstrated that their religious extremism is in conflict with Islamic values, Afghan culture, and human principles, and cannot bring the country out of isolation or establish peace, stability, and prosperity.
Miakhel wrote on his X page on Saturday (3 Asad) that Afghans have been victims of extremism and excess, and that religious extremism in the name of religion is not a solution to the country’s problems.
He also described ethnic, regional, and linguistic extremism promoted under the banners of “Khorasan” and “Hazaristan” as opposition to the Taliban as futile, emphasizing that such radical approaches likewise cannot bring stability and security to Afghanistan.
The former acting Defense Minister stressed that the only way to solve the country’s problems is for all Afghans to unite under a “national agenda” and “national flag,” so that equal rights for work, life, and political participation for all citizens are guaranteed within the framework of the law.
Miakhel concluded by saying that moderation is the best path in all matters, and that any other path will lead the country toward further difficulties.
These remarks come at a time when domestic and international concerns continue regarding the absence of an inclusive government and the restriction of Afghans’ rights under Taliban rule.
