Neda Mohammad Nadim, the Taliban’s Minister of Higher Education, stated in the Russian city of Kazan that Afghanistan under Taliban rule seeks balanced engagement with the international community as an independent country and does not act under anyone’s command.

According to an audio message released by the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education on Thursday, May 13, Nadim spoke on the sidelines of the 11th International Meeting of Russia and the Islamic World at the first session of the Afghanistan-Russia Joint Economic and Trade Commission.

In his speech, Nadim emphasized that Afghanistan, as an independent country and an important member of the Islamic world, seeks balanced engagement with the world and respects the principles of good neighborliness and mutual relations.

He said: “In any agreement or negotiation we have with anyone, we act independently. Nothing obstructs it, and what we say is implemented.”

Referring to Russia’s recognition of the Taliban administration, Nadim stated that the Taliban do not backtrack on their agreements and urged other countries to interact with them as Russia does.
Russia is the only country to have officially recognized the Taliban administration, although Moscow still maintains limited high-level relations with the group.
