Nargis Nehan, the former Minister of Mines and Petroleum during the Republic era, has stated that women and girls in Afghanistan face discrimination, persistent hatred, and ongoing oppression solely because of their gender.
In a post on her X account, she wrote that Afghanistan has become a “hell on earth” for women and girls, and that their fundamental rights are being violated.
Nehan emphasized that the international community must amplify the voices of Afghan women and girls, raise awareness about their situation, and continue to demand accountability from Taliban authorities.
She added: “The least we can do is to be their voice, inform the world of their situation, and continue the process of holding the Taliban accountable so that this situation is not normalized.”
According to her, the ongoing restrictions and pressures on Afghan women and girls must not be forgotten, and sustained international attention is required.
