The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan announced that its forces, as part of ongoing attacks against the Taliban, targeted and killed two members of the group in the Guzara district of Herat province. According to the front, the operation was carried out without causing any harm to civilians.
In a statement published on Saturday, the 6th of Saratan, the Front said the attack took place at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday in the area of the Herat–Kandahar ring road junction, within the Guzara district.
The statement added that those targeted were members of the reconnaissance unit of the First Brigade of the Al-Farooq Corps of the Taliban and were hit while patrolling the area. The National Resistance Front also claimed that its forces withdrew from the area without suffering any casualties after the operation.
The Front emphasized that no civilians were harmed during the attack.
The Taliban have so far not responded to these claims. The group has consistently denied the presence and military activity of the National Resistance Front and other armed opposition groups, and it typically does not confirm responsibility for attacks claimed by such groups.
However, periodic United Nations reports indicate that in recent months, several attacks attributed to the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan and the Afghanistan Freedom Front against Taliban positions have been recorded suggesting ongoing sporadic insecurity and the activity of armed opposition groups in certain provinces of Afghanistan.
