Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Ukraine will soon lose its western regions.
According to Russia’s TASS news agency, Putin made the remarks during a meeting with members of the Russian Navy.
He claimed that Russia had been the only guarantor of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, but said that Kyiv chose hostility instead of cooperation with Moscow. Putin also stated that some western regions of Ukraine had historically belonged to Poland, Hungary, and Romania.
The remarks come as Russia has controlled Crimea since 2014 and later seized some eastern regions of Ukraine by force actions that Ukraine and many countries around the world consider an occupation.
