The Axios news website has reported that Qatar, in an effort to mediate the ongoing crises in the Middle East, had proposed holding a trilateral meeting between Iran and the United States; however, Tehran rejected the proposal.
According to the report, despite ongoing military clashes and exchanges of fire between the two sides, Iranian and American officials have separately met with Qatari mediators in Doha over the past two days.
Axios writes that Qatari officials sought to bring the two countries together in a joint meeting, but the Iranian side declined to participate in the trilateral session.
Previous reports had also indicated that Qatar has been attempting to carry out diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington and to facilitate a potential agreement.
Over the past years, Qatar has played a mediating role in numerous regional conflicts and has kept its diplomatic channels active to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States.
