Informed sources within the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior have told the media that Sirajuddin Haqqani, the group’s Interior Minister, has appointed Amrullah Hamim to an administrative position. According to this information, he has been appointed as the head of the “General Command of Education and Training” office within the ministry.
It is reported that Amrullah Hamim had previously worked as one of the “suicide” operatives and has recently been introduced among the staff of the Ministry of Interior with this background. In a photo released from an administrative meeting, he is seen at the head of the table wearing a yellow-colored shawl.
This appointment comes at a time when there have been previous reports about the recruitment and deployment of individuals connected to suicide attacks within the Taliban’s security structures. This issue has always been closely monitored by watchdog organizations and the media.
Sirajuddin Haqqani had previously stated in a meeting in 2022 that more than 1,000 suicide attackers had been trained under his supervision and participated in operations. These remarks received wide attention in the media and political circles.
Over the past four years, the Taliban has integrated a significant number of members from their “suicide brigades,” including the Badri, Omari, and Mansoori brigades, into the structures of the Ministry of Interior, Defense, and Intelligence. These units operate under the leadership of various figures within the group.
It has also been reported that Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, has transferred some of the members of these brigades from Kabul and Khost to Kandahar and included them in his special forces.
According to sources, the Taliban are working to integrate individuals associated with suicide operations into official security and defense structures in response to pressures from Pakistan and the activities of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). However, these sources emphasize that this is the first case in which an individual with a history of suicide attacks has been appointed to an administrative position within the Ministry of Interior.
Meanwhile, Pakistani officials have claimed that members of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan have links to the Afghan Taliban, and some of them have played a role in suicide attacks in various regions of Pakistan. The Taliban have not confirmed these claims.
Sirajuddin Haqqani is also known among some sources as a figure linked to the organization of suicide attackers. According to a report by the National Security Council of the former Afghan government, the Taliban carried out 1,196 suicide attacks between 2001 and 2020, the deadliest of which were attributed to the Haqqani network.
It has also been reported that the Taliban’s Prime Minister’s office recently compiled a list of 239 families of suicide attackers and has been providing them with assistance on various occasions. The Taliban have not officially commented on Amrullah Hamim’s background.
