Local sources in Badakhshan province reported on Saturday, 10 Asad (July 31), that clashes between the Taliban and opposing groups have resumed in Zebak district. Meanwhile, a video obtained by Afghanistan International shows a helicopter flying over Zebak district.
According to a source, Taliban forces were ambushed on Friday evening by opponents of the group while a convoy was heading toward the front line in the Sanglich village of Zebak district. The source said the attack resulted in casualties, but did not provide details on the number of those killed or wounded.
Based on information from local sources, the front line of the clashes last week was located around the Jahil-e Topkhana area, and reports of continued fighting along this axis have also emerged in recent days.
As of the publication of this report, neither the Taliban nor the opposing groups have commented on the latest clashes or the claims made. Further details regarding the scale of the fighting and the possible number of casualties remain unavailable.
