Informed sources say that, following an escalation in clashes in Nusay district of Badakhshan, the Taliban have taken control of all health facilities in the district. According to the sources, a number of patients have been removed from the district clinic, while Taliban-affiliated doctors have taken responsibility for treating members of the group who were wounded in the fighting.
Clashes between Taliban forces and fighters affiliated with Juma Khan Fateh, one of the group’s commanders, began on Tuesday evening, August 11, and have continued since. Local sources say the fighting has intensified in recent hours, with the number of wounded Taliban fighters reportedly increasing.
According to the sources, the Taliban have taken control of the medical facilities available in Nusay to treat their wounded. Sources added that after patients were removed from the district clinic, the facility’s medical resources were dedicated to treating wounded Taliban fighters.
A local source said that a Taliban intelligence unit, accompanied by five ambulances and a fully equipped medical team, is currently present in Nusay. According to the source, the team is transporting wounded Taliban fighters from the area of the clashes to medical facilities and overseeing their treatment.
Meanwhile, sources at Badakhshan Hospital in the city of Faizabad said the facility has been placed on standby to receive potentially wounded Taliban fighters. The sources did not specify how many wounded individuals have so far been transferred from Nusay to Faizabad.
Separately, sources said a Taliban helicopter landed in Faizabad moments ago. According to the sources, the helicopter may have been used to transport wounded fighters from Nusay to Faizabad.
The sources also said that the helicopter traveled between Faizabad and the area of the clashes three times on Wednesday. However, there is no independent information available on the number of wounded or casualties, or the exact purpose and destination of the helicopter’s movements.
