Summary

Local sources in Panjshir Province say that the Taliban have arrested four individuals, including a university lecturer, in Dara District and transferred them to an undisclosed location.

According to the sources, the detainees are Malek Ji, Ahmad Jan, Ghulam Akbar, and Malek. The Taliban reportedly arrested them from their homes on Thursday, June 11.

Local sources added that the reasons for their arrests remain unclear, and the Taliban have not issued any official statement regarding the matter.

The incident comes approximately two weeks after the Taliban detained five residents of Dara District following an attack on a vehicle carrying members of the group.

Residents of Panjshir say that the Taliban have repeatedly arrested young people in the province on accusations of collaborating with the National Resistance Front (NRF) and other armed opposition groups.

According to local residents, some detainees who are released after interrogation and prolonged detention continue to face various restrictions and forms of pressure.

Panjshir Province has long been regarded as one of the main centers of resistance against the Taliban and, since the group’s return to power, has continued to witness the presence and activities of anti-Taliban resistance groups.

Some local sources report that the Taliban have deployed a large number of their forces throughout the province in an effort to maintain security and prevent the activities of opposition groups.

The Taliban have so far provided no information regarding the arrest of these four individuals or their current whereabouts and fate.
