A number of opponents of the Taliban have issued a statement calling for transparency regarding the use of domestic revenues and foreign aid in Afghanistan. They have claimed that the Taliban have received approximately $14 billion in domestic revenue and $16 billion in foreign assistance over the past five years, bringing the total to $30 billion.
In the statement, the Taliban were urged to provide the Afghan people with details on how these financial resources have been spent. The authors of the statement argue that despite the scale of these revenues and foreign assistance, there has been no significant improvement in the country’s economic and living conditions, and that many Afghans continue to struggle with poverty, unemployment, and economic hardship.
Sattar Hussaini, a former member of Afghanistan’s parliament, claimed in the statement that no substantial investment has been made in key infrastructure sectors, including education, healthcare, road construction, and economic development. He said that public services and citizens’ living conditions continue to face serious challenges.
The statement further accused the Taliban of mismanaging financial resources, granting mining contracts to foreign companies, and misusing public assets. It also called on the international community to investigate how revenues and international aid have been spent and to publish the findings transparently.
The Taliban have not yet responded to these allegations and have not officially commented on the figures cited or the management of domestic revenues and foreign assistance.
