King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, are set to arrive in the United States today for a four-day official visit. However, questions have been raised about the security situation for the trip following an incident on Saturday, when a man opened fire near the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, prompting Secret Service agents to evacuate Donald Trump, the President of the United States, from the area.
In an interview with CBS News’ “60 Minutes,” Donald Trump stated, “I think it’s great; he will be very safe. The White House grounds are really secure.”
The U.S. President also mentioned that no signs of any additional threats against him or other officials had been reported by security authorities.
Todd Blanche, the Acting U.S. Attorney General, had previously stated that American officials believe the shooting was likely aimed at the President and some government officials. He also emphasized that King Charles III would be completely secure during his visit to the U.S. this week.
The four-day visit includes a private meeting with Donald Trump and a speech to Congress to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. The goal of the visit is to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries, amid ongoing differences between Washington and London over the Iran conflict.
