Local sources in Badakhshan Province say that the Taliban has ordered armed individuals affiliated with Jumah Khan Fateh, a local commander of the group in Shaki and Nusay districts, to surrender their weapons as soon as possible. According to these sources, the move comes after weeks of tensions and disagreements between Jumah Khan Fateh and senior Taliban officials. During this period, he was also summoned to Kabul.
The districts of Shaki and Nusay are located in the Darwaz region of Badakhshan Province, and Jumah Khan Fateh is himself a resident of the area. Recent tensions in these districts have become one of the most significant security developments in Badakhshan in recent weeks and remain a focus of attention for Taliban authorities.
At the height of the dispute, Jumah Khan Fateh claimed that he commanded thousands of armed fighters. Individuals close to him have also claimed that around 3,500 fighters operate under his command in Nusay District, while a significant number of his forces are also stationed in Shaki District.
Informed sources estimate that the number of weapons that could potentially be collected from forces affiliated with Jumah Khan Fateh may exceed 5,000 firearms. However, the Taliban has not released any official figures on the matter so far.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Taliban has deployed special forces and intelligence units to Badakhshan in recent weeks in an effort to manage the situation in the province. According to sources, a Taliban intelligence unit consisting of approximately 100 vehicles has been involved in the operation.
Some sources suggest that part of these movements may have been aimed at a possible arrest of Jumah Khan Fateh, although the Taliban has neither confirmed nor denied this claim officially.
Sources say tensions escalated after Jumah Khan Fateh and forces under his command refused to implement certain orders issued by senior Taliban officials. Following this, negotiations were initiated through the mediation of Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Taliban’s army chief of staff, in an effort to ease tensions. Eventually, Jumah Khan Fateh traveled from Badakhshan to Kabul.
As part of these developments, the Taliban has also made changes to the security and administrative structures in Badakhshan Province. Reports indicate that the district governor and police commander of Nusay District were removed from their positions and replaced by new officials. A new commander has also been appointed for Jurm District.
Local sources emphasize that the situation in Nusay and Shaki districts remains under close Taliban monitoring, and the process of collecting weapons from forces affiliated with Jumah Khan Fateh is still ongoing.
