According to reports, the Taliban have also closed Salam University in Kabul, which is affiliated with the Jamiat-e Eslah organization. The move comes as restrictions on the activities of several private universities have increased in recent weeks.
Salam University was established in 2009 as an institution of higher education and was officially granted university status in 2013. The university has a main campus in Kabul and a branch in Kunduz, and its accreditation history is also recorded by the Ministry of Higher Education.
According to previous research, Salam University had links to Jamiat-e Eslah. A study by the United States Institute of Peace states that Jamiat-e Eslah operated schools and universities in Kabul and identified Salam University as one of its educational institutions.
The move follows the Taliban’s suspension of activities at several other universities. On September 16, the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education revoked the operating license of Khatam al-Nabieen University. A ministry spokesperson said the decision was made because the university had failed to implement ministry policies, disrespected Islamic values, and misused the university’s name and status. University officials, however, rejected allegations of political activities at the institution.
Regarding Dawat University, it was reported on September 20 that the Taliban’s Ministry of Higher Education had appointed an interim leadership for the university. In response to the decision, university officials suspended its academic, administrative, and educational activities. Sources within the Taliban ministry said the university would continue operating under the supervision of the interim leadership.
However, the exact official reason for the current closure of Salam University has not yet been reported in reliable public sources.
