The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a resolution aimed at stopping military operations against Iran ordered by Donald Trump. However, American media outlets have described the decision as largely symbolic, stating that it is unlikely to have any practical impact on the course of the conflict.
The resolution was passed on Thursday with 214 votes in favor and 208 votes against. Four Republican representatives joined Democrats in supporting the measure.
The resolution was introduced by Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal of Washington State and calls on President Donald Trump to halt U.S. military operations against Iran without formal authorization from Congress.
Nevertheless, U.S. media reports indicate that the resolution is primarily symbolic in nature, as Congress has previously passed similar measures, but those actions have not had a practical impact on ending military conflicts.
The vote took place as President Trump announced plans to intensify strikes against Iran, while reports have also emerged regarding the deaths of U.S. military personnel.
Meanwhile, following an attack by Yemen’s Houthi forces on two Saudi oil tankers, Trump has pledged to impose a “major military punishment” against Iran and its Houthi allies.
