Iranian authorities have said that they have issued seven-day visas for 2,500 Afghan citizens to enter Iran via the Dogharoun border crossing in order to attend the funeral and burial ceremony of “Ali Khamenei,” the former religious leader of Iran.

Jafar Seyyadbadi, the Director General for Foreign Nationals and Migrants Affairs in Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province, said that these visas are valid for seven days, and that Afghans may legally enter Iran through Dogharoun between the 5th and 6th of the month of July .

According to him, Afghans traveling to Mashhad to attend Khamenei’s funeral ceremony must return to Afghanistan via the same land border between the 11th and 12st of the month of July.

Seyyadbadi added that necessary facilities for welcoming, accommodation, and hospitality for Afghan guests have been arranged at 12 different locations across the city of Mashhad.
