Sources have reported that Abdul Majid Tehmas, an Afghan journalist based in Quetta, Pakistan, has been arrested by Pakistani police.
Sources told media outlets on Friday that Pakistani police detained Tehmas in the city of Quetta. Pakistani authorities have not yet commented on the reason for his arrest.
According to the sources, Pakistani police have stepped up the detention of Afghan journalists in recent days. No further details have been released regarding the number of journalists detained or their current status.
The arrests come as Pakistan has declined to renew the visas of a large number of Afghan refugees, a move that has heightened concerns among the Afghan migrant community.
Amnesty International has previously expressed concern over the arbitrary and unlawful detention of Afghan migrants in Pakistan and has called on the Pakistani authorities to uphold their rights.
