Summary

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araqchi, strongly reacted to the controversial remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who had referred to the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait.” Araqchi called this move not only incorrect but also a “historical mistake,” emphasizing that the name of the Strait of Hormuz is tied to the region’s historical and geographical identity, and changing it is unacceptable.

He also added that today in Iran, “Persian Gulf National Day” is being celebrated, a day that, according to him, marks about four centuries ago when Iranian forces expelled the Portuguese from this strategic region and established their dominance.

Araqchi humorously remarked that at least Trump correctly used the name “Persian Gulf,” but he considered the new term for the Strait of Hormuz baseless and a distortion. He also clarified that Iran would never allow the name of this historical and important waterway to be changed.

On the other hand, Trump, in a map he published, had written “STRAIT OF TRUMP” in an attempt to demonstrate his political and symbolic influence. However, Iranian officials viewed this action as false and provocative.

This verbal dispute has emerged at a time when tensions between Iran and the U.S. over the inspection and seizure of ships in the region’s waters have increased, and the situation is still considered sensitive.
