In Germany, a 20-year-old Afghan migrant has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl inside a school bathroom in the city of Koblenz. Police say it is still unclear exactly how the individuals managed to enter the school premises.
According to the public broadcaster SVR, police officials have stated that the suspect, with the cooperation of a 19-year-old male accomplice, was involved in the incident and attacked the girl.
The report indicates that the victim told her older sister about the incident two days later. After potentially identifying the suspect, the family reported the matter to the police, and an investigation began.
Authorities say the 20-year-old suspect has been arrested and is currently in temporary custody, while his 19-year-old accomplice is still under investigation. The incident took place on April 28 at one of the schools in Koblenz.
The Koblenz public prosecutor’s office announced that the main suspect is being prosecuted for committing sexual acts against a child on school premises and was arrested on May 4.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the individual had previously been under investigation in a case related to sexual offenses and was also fined for possessing an unlicensed replica weapon.
Authorities stated that the immigration status of the two individuals involved in the case is still unclear, and it is not known how long they have been in Germany. Investigations are ongoing.
German police said the case was made public following the spread of fake images and rumors on social media. According to officials, this misinformation caused public concern, but the situation is now reported to be somewhat calm.
The school cooperated with the police and established a crisis team to provide psychological support for students and parents. This team will also discuss new security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Police stated that due to the ongoing investigation, they are refraining from providing further details.
