As the United States completed its twelfth wave of strikes, at least two people were killed and 11 others injured after a missile struck the Shalamcheh border crossing between Iran and Iraq.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced early Thursday (July 24) that it had completed its twelfth round of military strikes against Iran overnight.
According to CENTCOM, the operation targeted Iran’s naval capabilities, missile and drone storage facilities, coastal surveillance sites, and air defense assets.
Meanwhile, Iranian media reported that a U.S. missile struck the Shalamcheh border crossing in Iran’s Khuzestan Province, located on the border between Iran and Iraq.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported that at least two people were killed and 11 others were injured in the attack.
Valiollah Hayati, Khuzestan’s Deputy Governor for Security Affairs, confirmed the strike, stating that the relevant authorities are investigating the full scope of the incident.
He also said that another missile strike targeted an area near Andimeshk, adding that details and any potential casualties from that attack have not yet been determined.
The Shalamcheh border crossing is one of the main transit points for pilgrims traveling ahead of the annual Arbaeen commemorations. However, Iranian media reported that despite the strikes, cross-border traffic has continued as normal.
At the same time, reports emerged of additional U.S. missile strikes and air raids by American fighter aircraft in other parts of Iran, including Bushehr, Jask, and Eslamabad-e Gharb.
