Fazl Mohammad Haqqani, the acting ambassador of Afghanistan in Tehran, met with Askar Jalalian, the deputy minister of justice of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as part of the Taliban administration’s efforts. They discussed the commencement of a new round of Afghan prisoner transfers. According to the Afghan embassy, the meeting emphasized the expansion of legal and judicial cooperation between Kabul and Tehran, as well as the operational mechanisms of this process.
During these discussions, the issue of transferring Afghan prisoners from Iran to Afghanistan was again reviewed, and both sides emphasized the need for further coordination in this regard. This process has also been carried out periodically between the two countries in previous years.
At the same time, the issue of prisoner transfers has raised concerns among families. They are seeking transparency regarding the legal status and conditions of detainees after their return. Given the current situation and the lack of a transparent and accountable judicial system in Afghanistan, concerns about how cases will be handled persist.
