Summary

The anti-Taliban group known as the Freedom Front has claimed that terrorist groups posing a threat to Afghanistan, the region, and the wider world have been trained and expanded under the Taliban’s protection or in safe havens provided by them in Afghanistan.

In a message posted on the social media platform X, the Freedom Front described the Taliban as the “primary responsibility” for the growth of terrorism and extremism in Afghanistan, and said it would continue its campaign to eliminate the Taliban.

The Freedom Front’s remarks come as Pakistan has also accused the Taliban of providing members of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with opportunities to operate, train, and seek refuge in Afghanistan. Islamabad claims that much of the recent insecurity in Pakistan originates from Afghan territory; however, the Taliban have rejected these allegations.

The Taliban have previously faced similar accusations that Al-Qaeda, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), and several other militant groups maintain a presence and enjoy safe havens in Afghanistan.

The United Nations has also expressed concern in various reports over the presence of international terrorist groups in Afghanistan, describing the situation as a security concern for countries across the region.
