The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has condemned the United States’ strikes on targets inside Iranian territory, describing the attacks as “barbaric” and a violation of the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.
In a statement, the ministry said that the United States, along with all parties that have cooperated with or been complicit in what it described as acts of aggression, would bear responsibility for the consequences of the current situation.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also stated that the U.S. strikes targeted coastal surveillance facilities in the country’s south. According to the statement, Iran responded by striking targets associated with U.S. forces in the region, although it did not disclose the locations of those attacks.
The statement further called on regional countries to uphold the principle of good neighborliness and refrain from allowing their territory to be used for attacks against Iran.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces carried out strikes on targets in Iran late on Friday, 6 Saratan, in response to an attack the previous day on a commercial vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
Separately, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that its naval forces had targeted positions of U.S. military forces in the region in response to what it described as “U.S. aggression and breach of commitments.”
