Summary

Authorities in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have announced the formation of a specialized military unit consisting of a trained and well-equipped strike force to counter terrorism. According to reports, this unit will be responsible for leading intelligence-based targeted operations against terrorist groups in the province.

Zulfiqar Hameed, Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, said in a statement on Thursday, 28 Jowza, that the unit will comprise 400 selected police personnel. He added that members will be chosen after undergoing rigorous medical, psychological, and physical assessments, and will be exempt from routine policing duties.

The statement noted that the structure and operational framework of the unit have been designed in accordance with international standards. The force will be organized into 45-member groups, each deployed for a period of 90 days in the most sensitive areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to conduct joint operations under the supervision of local police commanders or counterterrorism officials.

Under the plan, members of the special unit will undergo a mandatory 30-day training course at the Elite Police Training Center in Nowshera. The course aims to enhance combat capabilities, strengthen operational skills, and facilitate the exchange of field experience among personnel.

The Inspector General stated that the force will not only be equipped with conventional weapons but will also receive training and equipment in drone technology, sniper skills, and hand-to-hand combat techniques to improve operational effectiveness.

Zulfiqar Hameed emphasized that combating all forms of militancy and ensuring the protection of citizens’ lives and property remains a top priority of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police.
