In recent days, the movement of freight trucks at the Islam Qala–Dogharoun border crossing between Afghanistan and Iran has increased. Iranian officials say that more than 1,700 freight trucks cross this route every day.
Mehdi Rajabi, Deputy Governor of Taybad in Iran, said that in just the past two days, 3,661 freight trucks carrying commercial goods bound for Afghanistan or returning to Iran crossed through the Islam Qala–Dogharoun route.
According to him, long queues of export and transit trucks formed at the Dogharoun terminals last week, prompting complaints from truck drivers. He added that more than 2,000 freight trucks are still waiting on the Iranian side to enter Afghanistan.
Iranian officials say efforts are underway to expedite the movement of trucks and facilitate customs procedures. However, they claim that the clearance and departure process for export and transit trucks at Dogharoun Customs is operating normally and that traffic is not subject to any official restrictions.
Rajabi said that, following coordination between Iranian and Taliban officials, the queue of trucks traveling from Islam Qala toward Iran has also been cleared, and there have been no reports of trucks being held up on the Afghan side of the border.
The Islam Qala–Dogharoun crossing is one of the major trade and transit routes between Afghanistan and Iran.
