Noor Rahman Akhlaqi, the former Minister of Refugees and Repatriation in Afghanistan’s previous republican government, has condemned the Taliban’s shooting at protesters in Yeftal-e Payeen district of Badakhshan Province, saying that the people of Badakhshan have stood up against oppression to defend their rights and human dignity.
Akhlaqi wrote on his X account on Saturday (10 Asad) that the Taliban’s rule, which he described as a “cruel and ignorant regime,” has become weaker than ever before and that the group’s “decline” has begun.
He claimed that the foundations of the Taliban’s rule have significantly weakened compared to the past, adding that continued oppression and repression can never guarantee the survival of any government. According to him, the Taliban will be recorded in history as an “uninformed and oppressive regime.”
These remarks came after protesters were shot at on Saturday in the Sangab area of Yeftal-e Payeen district in Badakhshan Province. According to reports, one civilian was killed and several others were injured in the incident. The protests are said to have started in response to the conduct of non-local Taliban members and the physical search of a woman.
The Taliban have not yet made any official statement regarding these allegations.
