Summary

During a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s representative once again criticized the Taliban, stating that certain elements within the group maintain links and interactions with terrorist organizations and provide them with support.

He further said that these terrorist groups are responsible for cross-border attacks that have targeted civilians, security forces, public facilities, and infrastructure in Pakistan.

The Pakistani representative emphasized that conditions must be created in Afghanistan that would enable the country to re-establish normal relations with the international community, and allow Afghan refugees to return safely to their homeland.

He also stated that the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) should support efforts at both the national and regional levels to prevent the trafficking and trade of small arms and illegal weapons, and ensure impartial reporting in this regard.

Finally, the Pakistani representative expressed concern over the delay in the appointment of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, saying that such a delay is not suitable for managing the current situation.
