Reza Pahlavi has stated that the recent peace agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran constitutes a “betrayal” of the Iranian people. He said that the demands and aspirations of Iranian citizens were ignored in the negotiations leading to the agreement.
In an exclusive interview with the British newspaper Daily Mail in London, he said that tens of thousands of protesters, whom he claimed were killed during nationwide demonstrations in the month of Dey (the Iranian calendar), “did not give their lives for a nuclear agreement or the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.”
These remarks come as Donald Trump announced on Wednesday in France that he had signed a memorandum of understanding, mediated by Pakistan, aimed at ending recent conflicts in the Middle East.
The United States government described the agreement as a “victory,” while it has been met with mixed reactions and differing interpretations from various political figures and factions.
