The Taliban’s media office in Nangarhar province has announced that the group’s forces seized 24 firearms from a vehicle belonging to a family returning to Afghanistan from Pakistan. According to the office, the weapons had been expertly concealed inside various compartments of the vehicle and were discovered during an inspection.
The Taliban said that two individuals have been arrested on suspicion of weapons smuggling in connection with the case. However, the authorities have not disclosed the identities of those detained, the driver or other occupants of the vehicle, or the individuals believed to have hidden the weapons inside the vehicle.
The Torkham border crossing has been closed to regular cross-border traffic for nearly a year. At present, only Afghan migrants returning from Pakistan to Afghanistan are permitted to cross through the checkpoint.
