Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister of Interior, has said that the group’s way of life and conduct still do not fully conform to the standards of Islamic Sharia. Speaking at a gathering in Andar district of Ghazni province, he stressed that the fundamental problem lies in the inconsistency between their daily conduct and the divine commandments, the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, and the practices of early Islamic religious scholars.

On Friday, November 6, the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior announced on its X account that Haqqani had attended and addressed a graduation ceremony for students of Noor-ul-Madaris religious school in Ghazni.

During the ceremony, Haqqani said that addressing society’s problems requires every individual to prioritise self-reform and inner purification before taking any other action.

Referring to the gap between people’s conduct and religious teachings, he added that many problems and challenges could be eliminated if their daily lives were organised in accordance with the commandments of Allah, the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, and the guidance of religious leaders.

The Taliban interior minister urged the graduates to focus on their personal conduct and self-discipline before attempting to reform others, and to put religious teachings into genuine practice in their daily lives.

He also stated that officials and rulers can play an effective role in reforming society only when they begin by reforming themselves. He emphasised that just as they monitor the conduct of the public, they must also hold themselves accountable for their own behaviour and performance.

In another part of his speech, Haqqani stressed that personal reform only has real meaning when individuals also feel a sense of responsibility and compassion towards the circumstances and hardships faced by other nations.

Concluding his remarks, he urged attendees to consider the interests and future of the people, prioritise correcting their own conduct, and take responsibility for their mistakes rather than blaming others for their shortcomings.
