Summary

Reliable sources say that a local athlete who also worked as a money exchanger (money changer) was shot and killed on Thursday near the “Behtarin Alam” mosque in Taloqan city, the capital of Takhar province.

According to the sources, the attackers were riding a motorcycle and fled the scene after opening fire on Naqibullah. The motive behind the attack and the identities of the perpetrators have not yet been determined.

The incident comes as residents of Takhar province have, in recent weeks, expressed concern over an increase in armed robberies and criminal activities in the province.

Last month as well, according to sources, armed individuals broke into a supermarket in Taloqan city during the night and stole around 50,000 Afghanis in cash from the shop owner.

Taliban authorities have not yet commented on this incident or its details.
