The Taliban-run media office of the Kandahar governor has rejected a claim by a Pakistani military spokesperson that Mullah Sherin hosted a meeting with representatives of foreign armed groups in the province.
In a statement, the office said reports of a meeting between Kandahar Governor Mullah Sherin and representatives of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Baloch armed groups and al-Qaeda were unfounded. The Taliban described the reports as “propaganda,” saying their administration has no need for foreign fighters and does not hold meetings with them.
The office also alleged that Pakistani military circles are using such claims to justify their military operations in Afghanistan, including civilian casualties.
The response comes amid heightened security and military tensions between Kabul and Islamabad in recent months, with both sides accusing each other of supporting armed groups and carrying out attacks along the Durand Line.
Sharif Chaudhry, a spokesperson for the Pakistani military, claimed on Thursday that Mullah Sherin hosted a joint meeting in Kandahar about a month ago involving representatives of Baloch armed groups, the TTP and al-Qaeda. He said the meeting was held on September 4 and was aimed at coordinating efforts to increase attacks inside Pakistan.
