India’s army chief warned that Pakistan could be “wiped off the world map,” drawing a sharp response from Islamabad. Pakistan’s military described the remarks as a sign of “intellectual bankruptcy, madness, and war hysteria.”

In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson for the Pakistan Army, it said: “Threatening to erase a sovereign and neighboring nuclear state from the world map is a dangerous and irresponsible act.”

The Pakistan Army also stressed that any “geographical destruction” between the two countries would have consequences for both sides. The statement added: “A nuclear state should demonstrate restraint and responsibility instead of talking about destroying another nuclear state.”

The reaction came after remarks made by India’s Chief of Army Staff during the annual civil-military conference “Sina Samvad 2026.” He made the comments while responding to a question about the possibility of repeating “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan.

General Upendra Dwivedi, India’s Army Chief, said: “If Pakistan continues to support terrorism and does not stop anti-India activities, it must decide whether it wants to remain part of geography and history or not.”

In response, Pakistan’s military stated that the country has firmly established its position in the region and the world and, as a nuclear power, is an inseparable part of the geography and history of South Asia.

The statement further said: “The remarks by the Indian Army commander show that India’s leadership, even after nearly eight decades, has still failed to accept the reality and concept of Pakistan and has not learned from past experiences.”

Tensions between the two countries escalated after gunmen attacked tourists in the Pahalgam area of Kashmir. In that incident, 26 tourists were killed, and India accused Pakistan of supporting the attackers.

Following the incident, the Indian Army targeted several locations inside Pakistan in an operation named “Sindoor.” New Delhi stated that it had struck hideouts of terrorist groups.

Afterward, military clashes between the two countries continued for four days and included aerial combat and exchanges of rocket fire. Both countries claimed victory in the confrontation at the time.

Pakistan claims it shot down more than six Indian fighter jets, including Rafale aircraft. India, on the other hand, says it targeted several Pakistani military bases, facilities, and hideouts of armed groups.
