The Islamic Republic of Iran has executed Ebrahim Dowlatabadi, one of the detainees from the protests in Mashhad in January, on charges of “moharebeh” (enmity against God). According to a report published by a human rights organization, his death sentence was issued by the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad and later confirmed by the Supreme Court of Iran.
Ebrahim Dowlatabadi was a father of two children, and simultaneously, two of his brothers and his teenage child were also detained. No further official details have been released about the condition and fate of these individuals.
Earlier, two human rights organizations had warned that hundreds of detainees from the January protests of the previous year are still facing the threat of execution. According to human rights groups, these protests were met with heavy security crackdowns and widespread repression.
According to these reports, thousands of people were killed, and tens of thousands were arrested during these events. The exact and independent figures have not been confirmed by official sources, but human rights organizations emphasize the scale of these events.
In a joint report by the “Iran Human Rights Organization” and “Together Against the Death Penalty,” it was stated that in 2025, the Islamic Republic executed at least 1,639 people. This figure, according to these organizations, marks the highest recorded execution rate in the past 36 years.
