Amo TV has reported that, based on a new directive from the Ministry of Communications under the Taliban administration, fiber-optic internet will be suspended in residential areas of Kabul.
According to two sources within the Ministry of Communications, this decision was made following a meeting between the Minister of Communications and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, and telecom companies have been instructed to cut fiber-optic services to households in Kabul.
According to an official document, this restriction primarily affects residential areas, and some companies and government offices may be exempt from this decision.
The document states that DSL services may continue, but no details have been provided regarding the duration of this restriction.
Fiber-optic internet is considered one of the fastest ways to access the internet, and its suspension could severely disrupt online education, digital business, and the everyday communications of Kabul residents.
This decision comes amid growing concerns over increasing restrictions on access to information and internet services in Afghanistan.
