Mohammad Ismail Khan, a former prominent jihadi commander, has reacted to the killing of Hasib Panjshiri, a commander of the National Resistance Front, saying that his position will not remain vacant.
In a statement, Ismail Khan said that following the fall of the previous government, Hasib Panjshiri had resisted the Taliban for five years in the mountainous regions of northern Afghanistan.
He expressed deep sorrow over Panjshiri’s death and extended his condolences and sympathies to his family, friends, and supporters of the resistance.
Ismail Khan emphasized that “the blood of the free sons of this country will uproot the foundations of the oppressors.”
Hasib Panjshiri was killed on Thursday in a Taliban ambush in the northern Salang area. His killing has prompted widespread reactions from political figures and groups opposed to the Taliban.
Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front, also reacted to Panjshiri’s killing by stressing the need for retaliation against the Taliban and saying that the Taliban’s “reign of oppression and crime” will soon be brought to an end.
