Summary

Fazal Ahmad Manawi, the former Minister of Justice of Afghanistan under the republic, has criticized the Taliban’s treatment of the body of Hasibullah Panjshiri, a slain commander of the National Resistance Front, describing it as a sign of the Taliban’s “moral defeat.”

In a post on his X account on Saturday, Manawi said that the death of Hasibullah Panjshiri marks the end of his physical life, but that his aspirations for freedom, dignity, human rights, and defending his homeland do not end with his death.

He said that disrespecting the body of a slain person is not a sign of strength, but rather an indication of moral weakness and human failure. According to Manawi, a strong person does not continue fighting a fallen enemy after death, and under Islamic law, human dignity and sanctity do not cease with death.

Manawi said that resistance should not be understood merely as an act of anger or revenge, but as a responsibility to preserve human dignity, honor, and integrity. He urged Afghans not to become discouraged or remain silent in the face of Taliban oppression.

He warned that no nation has ever achieved freedom simply by watching oppression unfold, and that if people do not stand against tyranny today, its consequences will eventually affect everyone.

Earlier, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid had said that Taliban fighters had become “emotional” while handling Hasib Panjshiri’s body and were not conscious of their behavior at the time.

The remarks come after Hasibullah Panjshiri, widely known as “Hasib Qoway-e Markaz,” was killed in a Taliban operation, prompting widespread reactions over the way his body was treated.
