The Taliban administration has announced that the High Council of Labor, chaired by Mullah Abdul Manan Omari, the acting Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, has reviewed the process of establishing a minimum wage for workers along with proposals submitted by the private sector. According to the ministry's press office, representatives from the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) as well as the Chamber of Craftsmen and Shopkeepers shared their perspectives on labor market regulation and enhancing economic activities.
The meeting comes as widespread unemployment remains one of the most critical concerns for Afghan families. The acting Minister of Labor and Social Affairs stated that providing financial support for tradespeople, offering microloans, and streamlining the business licensing process are among the key measures that could help reduce unemployment and create job opportunities.
Despite discussions regarding a minimum wage, no specific figure has been announced thus far. Furthermore, officials from the Taliban administration have not provided additional details regarding the timeline for finalizing or implementing the proposed wage framework.
