According to informed sources, the Taliban in Herat province have instructed the Ministry of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice that chess players should no longer play online chess either. According to the sources, this new restriction is a continuation of previous decisions, which about a year ago suspended chess across Afghanistan due to “religious considerations.”
With the announcement of this decision, chess enthusiasts are facing even more restrictions, as now not only physical games but also digital and online games have been banned.
