Afghan athlete Nader Sofizadeh has won a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling at the 2026 International Games, hosted by Kyrgyzstan.

Sofizadeh defeated athletes from Italy, Georgia, and Armenia on his way to securing third place, but was defeated by his Kyrgyz opponent in the semifinal.

According to the Afghanistan Wrestling, Sambo, and Greco-Roman Wrestling Federation, the competitions began on August 31 and will continue through September 7.

The federation said around 3,000 athletes from 106 countries are participating in the games across 43 sporting disciplines. The competitions are being held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, as well as areas surrounding Lake Issyk-Kul.

Afghanistan is also represented at the games by two heavyweight athletes and one coach.
